PPO Abogados announced that Carlos Covarrubias has joined its Energy and Natural Resources area as “Senior Counsel”, to strengthen the leading capacities of the firm, with a special focus on the areas of energy, mining, projects, infrastructure and complex transactions.
Covarrubias, which will be based in the Santa Cruz offices of PPO, has more than 20 years of professional experience, 15 of which were dedicated to the hydrocarbon and mining sectors, serving as internal lawyer for companies such as Shell, BG Group and Glencore.
In mining, Covarrubias participated in international transactions, share acquisitions and restructuring. In the field of hydrocarbons, he worked in companies dedicated to downstream and upstream, having negotiated and prepared a variety of oil contracts (operation and services), joint operation contracts (JOAs), as well as a series of national and international service contracts.
He was a leader in HSSE (health and safety) and E&C (ethics and compliance) statutory audit processes. In addition, he was in charge of important legal and regulatory processes and has extensive experience in complex negotiations with government authorities and indigenous communities, having achieved important results for the hydrocarbon and mining sector.
